Real Madrid have officially signed Asier Illarramendi from Real Sociedad for a price believed to be €38 Million as they decided to activate his release clause.
Illarramendi joins Real Madrid after a very successful season with Real Sociedad in which he was able to prove himself as a great midfielder as Los Merengues look for a future replacement to Xabi Alonso.
Asier Illaramendi was a product of the Real Sociedad youth team before finding his way up the ranks to the first team on January 2011 against Villarreal though the majority of that season was spent in the youth team. As for last season, the young Spanish midfielder helped the team secure a UEFA Champions League spot for the first time in ten years as he also won the U21 Euro Cup with Spain earlier this summer.
He is a great addition to the team as he will be able to help Los Blancos achieve their goals under Carlo Ancelotti. Many people feel that €38 Million is a lot to pay for a player such as Illarramendi but the club felt it was a necessary signing and the player has shown that he has a lot of potential and can be one of the great players in Real Madrid. Also, there was no possibility that we could have purchased him for any less since Real Sociedad were not willing to sell until Real Madrid paid the buyout clause.
Welcome to Real Madrid, Asier Illarramendi!
