Real Madrid hosted Sevilla in a game where Los Merengues needed the win after losing in El Clásico during the last round of La Liga.

Starting Lineup:

Carlo Ancelotti decided to put Karim Benzema into the starting lineup while giving Gareth Bale his second consecutive start with Ángel Di María on the bench. The starting lineup consisted of:

Diego López, Alvaro Arbeloa, Raphael Varane, Sergio Ramos [C], Marcelo, Asier Illarramendi, Sami Khedira, Gareth Bale, Isco, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Karim Benzema

Scorers:

Real Madrid:
Gareth Bale (14′)
Gareth Bale (27′)
Cristiano Ronaldo (32′)

Cristiano Ronaldo (72′)
Karim Benzema (80′)

Sevilla:
Ivan Rakitic (38′)
Carlos Bacca (40′)
Ivan Rakitic (63′)

Gareth Bale:

Gareth Bale was out to prove a point against Sevilla after a poor performance against Barcelona as he was able to show everyone what he was really capable of by getting two goals and two assists to his name. He linked up very well with the team and showed amazing confidence. Of course, there is always room for improvement, but he is finally on the right track as he was able to complete 90 minutes for the first time this season.

Cristiano Ronaldo Responds:
After the heated debate during the past couple days between Cristiano Ronaldo and, FIFA President, Sepp Blatter, the Portuguese was able to respond brilliantly as he scored a hat-trick. He is taking the whole problem quite humorously as he did a salute after scoring his first goal of the night. Yet another great performance by Ronaldo as he seems unstoppable at the moment.

Karim Benzema:
Recently, I haven’t made my criticism of Karim Benzema a secret but will have to give credit where it’s due. The French attacker played amazingly against Sevilla as he was able to get two goals and two assists to his name. Also, he was always available to recieve the ball and dictate play and seemed really up for the game. It seems as thougb being benched during El Clásico was a wake-up call and we need to hope that he keeps up this improvement.

Xabi Alonso Returns:

Xabi Alonso has finally returned to the team after being injured for the season so far. He was able to get a few minutes against Sevilla as he continues to revover. This will be seen as a massive boost to the team as they have gotten a lot of professionalism and experience in Xabi Alonso.
