Real Madrid hosted Galatasaray as they aimed to guarantee a first place position in their UEFA Champions League group. All they needed was a draw but were able to come out with a very convincing 4-1 win.

Starting Lineup:

Because of the injuries, Carlo Ancelotti decided to change the starting lineup around as he was still able to come out with a strong starting eleven on the night. The starting lineup consisted of:

Iker Casillas [C], Alvaro Arbeloa, Pepe, Sergio Ramos, Marcelo, Asier Illarramendi, Carlos Casemiro, Gareth Bale, Isco, Angel Di María, and Jesé Rodriguez

Scorers:

Real Madrid-
Gareth Bale (37′)
Alvaro Arbeloa (52′)
Angel Di María (63′)
Isco (81′)

Galatasaray-
Umut Bulut (38′)

Sergio Ramos:

With the score at 0-0 as both teams tried to play it safe, Sergio Ramos was shown hos 17th career red card after pulling down an attacker while he was the last defender. There are some questions as to whether or not it actually was a red card but, regardless, Ramos put himself in danger as he provoked the attacker to fall and was shown the red card. There was no point of that especially since this wasn’t a decisive game and he could have held back. Not a smart decision from the Real Madrid vice-captain.

Supporting Cristiano Ronaldo:

Over 40,000 fans at the stadium came out with masks and posters of Cristiano Ronaldo as they were supporting his race to win the Balon d’Or. Even though he wasn’t able to play because of an injury, he was in the stands and was able to witness the support of all the fans.

Gareth Bale:

With Cristiano Ronaldo out of the match, it was Gareth Bale’s opportunity to shine. He didn’t have his best game in a Real Madrid shirt but certainly showed his passion and never stopped trying. He was also able to score a wonderful free-kick to open the scoring on the 37th minute.

Alvaro Arbeloa:

He may not be the greatest player in Real Madrid but he certainly was against Galatasaray. He has been criticized a lot recently but was able to show that he is still a great player. With a goal and an assist to his name, he will be hoping that things will only improve from here. A great night for the Spanish defender.

Carlos Casemiro:

Making his UEFA Champions League debut, Carlos Casemiro was extremely relaxed and ready for the challenge. He held his position extremely well and was able to prove that he is capable of so much. The youngster will be hoping he has more opportunities to prove himself and should be proud of his performance against Galatasaray last night.
