Real Madrid hosted Espanyol for the second leg of the Copa del Rey Quarter-Finals after winning the first game 1-0.

Starting Lineup:

Carlo Ancelotti made a few changes to the starting lineup as he decided to rest Marcelo, Pepe, Luka Modric, and Karim Benzema. The starting lineup consisted of:

Iker Casillas [C], Alvaro Arbeloa, Sergio Ramos, Nacho, Fabio Coentrao, Xabi Alonso, Asier Illarramendi, Angel Di Maria, Isco, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Jese Rodriguez

Real Madrid –
Jese Rodriguez (7′)

Espanyol –

Jese Rodriguez:

Jese Rodriguez keeps doing what he does best as he takes every possible opportunity to show the world what he is capable of. Against Espanyol, he was given the chance to start and was able to get his name on the scoresheet after only seven minutes. Other than that, he was always energetic and involved in some of Real Madrid’s most dangerous plays going forward. The young Spanish forward is only showing us a glimpse of what we can expect from him in the future. A great season so far for Jese.

Iker Casillas:

Iker Casillas surely went home happy after the game against Espanyol as he was able to get yet another clean sheet with some amazing saves. He now holds the new record of the most clean sheets by a Real Madrid goalkeeper after going over 11 hours without conceding a single goal. The Los Merengues captain shows that he can still play at the top level and is ready to do whatever is necessary in order to become Real Madrid’s number one again.

If anyone watches the preseason and Real Madrid’s first few games of the season, they would not have expected Isco to be benched for a majority of the campaign, but that’s how it is. He is barely getting any opportunities on the pitch after Luka Modric has shown how sensational he can be this season. With that said, Isco was able to get a chance to play against Espanyol and he did quite well. Nothing out of the ordinary, but I realized that there is a minor problem with him. He can build up play beautifully but there are numerous times that he gets the ball and has a chance to shoot yet he looks for a pass instead. That move has cost us a few goals during the season and is something he needs to work on. Other than that, he has proven to be a great signing for Los Blancos so far.

The Semi-Finals:

After Real Madrid have qualified for the Semi-Finals of the Copa del Rey, they now wait to see who they will be playing against between Athletic Bilbao and Atletico Madrid. Atletico Madrid won the first leg 1-0 so anything is possible during the second leg. For those who are interested, the game will be played on January 29 at 10:00 PM (KSA)
