Real Madrid visited Getafe as they needed a win to continue their pursuit to first place after both, Atletico Madrid and Barcelona, came out with three points during the weekend.
Carlo Ancelotti decided to come out with a strong lineup especially since Real Madrid won’t be playing a midweek game this week. The starting lineup consisted of:
Diego Lopez, Alvaro Arbeloa, Pepe, Sergio Ramos [C], Marcelo, Xabi Alonso, Luka Modric, Gareth Bale, Angel Di Maria, Jese Rodriguez, and Karim Benzema.
Jese Rodriguez (5′)
Karim Benzema (27′)
Luka Modric (66′)
Gareth Bale has shown signs of improvement when it comes to his fitness as he’s been able to play in the past three games with full comfort while his performances have been quite good. Against Getafe, he wasn’t able to make a major difference in the game as he seemed lost at times while also not influencing the play as much as he could. He got a couple opportunities but was not able to show his quality, especially after a great play by Karim Benzema. As Ancelotti said in his post-match press conference, “Gareth Bale showed quantity but not quality”.
Karim Benzema was able to get his name on the scoresheet yet again against Getafe as he is showing that he has a lot to offer. His performance was a joy to watch as he made sure that he had a major role in the team and was able to contribute to what they did on the pitch. He made some great plays and also interacted greatly with the team, especially with Angel Di Maria.
What a player. Luka Modric has been able to fully fit into life with the Real Madrid squad and has been showing everyone his unbelievable quality. Last season, he was voted as the worst signing in La Liga but he has proven everyone wrong with some amazingly consistent performances lately. He has also been able to get his name on the scoresheet and keep his ‘reputation’ of scoring every single goal with Los Merengues from outside of the box. The Croatian seems like he is enjoying his role in the team and has no intention of losing this great form.
It seems as though every week, I feel the need to put his name on this list as Jese Rodriguez has been in unbelievable form lately with the squad. He has been able to contribute to the play greatly and has scored five goals in the past five games. With this great form, it is very difficult to see him being benched. Also, it’s hard to see how Carlo Ancelotti will line up his team when Cristiano Ronaldo returns from suspension. Having everyone fit will be great for the team but Ancelotti will surely be facing a selection headache.
