Real Madrid visited Elche as they continued their hopes for being top of La Liga with a convincing 3-0 win.

Starting Lineup:

With Cristiano Ronaldo completing the final part of his three-game ban, Carlo Ancelotti decided to rest a few more players as the UEFA Champions League game against Schalke will be played on Wednesday. The starting lineup consisted of:

Diego Lopez, Daniel Carvajal, Pepe [C], Raphael Varane, Alvaro Arbeloa, Xabi Alonso, Asier Illarramendi, Gareth Bale, Angel Di Maria, Jese Rodriguez, and Karim Benzema.

Scorers:

Real Madrid –
Asier Illarramendi (34′)
Gareth Bale (72′)
Isco (81′)

Elche –
——

Asier Illarramendi:

Asier Illarramendi took the place of Luka Modric on the night and was able to deliver brilliantly as he was always ready to make a difference in the game. The young Spanish midfielder was also able to score his first ever La Liga goal on the 34th minute as he opened the scoring for Los Merengues. Illarramendi should be happy with his performance on the night as he played the full 90 minutes very well.

Gareth Bale:

Gareth Bale was not his usual self during the game as many of his passes and dribbles didn’t go the way he wanted to. Also, he had 5 shots and only one of them were on target. With that said, the one shot on target is arguably the best goal in La Liga so far as he had a long shot which went in off the crossbar. That goal took a lot of the criticism off the Welshman, but he needs to improve on the full performance that he had against Elche.

Isco:

Isco came onto the pitch late in the second half and showed everyone just how good he really is. The Spanish midfielder was all over the place and was also able to get his name on the scoresheet with a brilliant finish. Isco really needs more time on the pitch and I’m sure that Carlo Ancelotti realizes that as well. With time, hopefully the world will be able to see more of his brilliance on the pitch.

Top Of The League:

With the 3-0 win against Elche, Real Madrid had to wait for Barcelona (against Real Sociedad) and Atletico Madrid (against Osasuna). Real Sociedad were able to come out with a very convincing 3-1 win against the Catalans, which leaves them three points behind Los Merengues. We are still waiting on the match between Atletico Madrid and Osasuna.
