Real Madrid hosted Levante on their pursuit to first place after Barcelona lost to Real Valladolid and Atletico Madrid beat Celta de Vigo the night before.

Starting Lineup:

Carlo Ancelotti knew that he could not take any chances as he named a very strong starting lineup on the night while giving Pepe some rest on the bench. The starting lineup consisted of:

Diego Lopez, Daniel Carvajal, Raphael Varane, Sergio Ramos [C], Marcelo, Xabi Alonso, Luka Modric, Gareth Bale, Angel Di Maria, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Karim Benzema

Scorers:

Real Madrid –
Cristiano Ronaldo (11′)
Marcelo (49′)
Nikos Karabelas [OG] (81′)

Levante –
——

Karim Benzema:

Karim Benzema didn’t find himself on the scoresheet against Levante but that certainly wasn’t because he did not try. Two great headers hit the post while he was always available for the team. Took many chances but simply wasn’t lucky enough to get the ball into the back of the net on the night. A great night for the Frenchman as it seems that he has finally become a player that Real Madrid can really depend on from now on, especially with some very difficult games coming up during the rest of the season.

Daniel Carvajal:

Daniel Carvajal has quite a solid game as he shows that he is a consistent player for the team. Towards the end of the game, he was suddenly on the floor complaining about pain in his leg and the replays showed that he fell without any contact from the opposition. The fears were gone though when Carlo Ancelotti and the player both confirmed that he will be able to play in about three days. With Alvaro Arbeloa injured for a few weeks, losing Carvajal would have been very chaotic for the team.

Was 3-0 Fair?

Real Madrid were the better team from the beginning of the game and it was very obvious. Levante were not able to come out with anything major to affect the home team. On any other night, it would have easily been a 6-0 or 7-0 win for Los Merengues but they did the most important part, which is that they got the very important three points and are not in first place.

Cristiano Ronaldo:

Cristiano Ronaldo has finally come back to play in the Santiago Bernabeu after his suspension and he was ready for the occasion with one goal and one assist. Also, he had a shot which hit the post. The Portuguese continues to impress everyone with how much he can improve and he did not disappoint on the night.
