Real Madrid VS Bayern Munich. Carlo Ancelotti VS Pep Guardiola. It can’t really get any bigger than this for a UEFA Champions League semi-final match between the two sides on Wednesday night. Let’s have a look at how both teams have done in their build-up to this massive game as they both look to win the competition for different reasons (other than being the Champions of Europe, of course…)

Real Madrid CF:

Real Madrid come into this match as things cannot really be going too much better for them. Last week, they were able to beat Barcelona in the Copa del Rey final and then have a week off to prepare for their match against Bayern Munich. Yes, they aren’t doing as well as anyone would have really hoped in La Liga as they are now in third place (with a game in hand) as Atletico Madrid and Barcelona are above them.

Another thing getting the team excited is the return of Cristiano Ronaldo to the squad after he spent the past couple weeks treating an injury. He may not be 100% fit but it seems as though he got the green light to participate on Wednesday. With that said, I’m slightly hoping that Carlo Ancelotti does not play him for the full 90 minutes as we will surely be needing him in the return leg in Germany six days later.

Real Madrid’s Past 5 Games:

Real Madrid 2-1 Barcelona (Copa del Rey)
Real Madrid 4-0 Almeria (La Liga)
Borussia Dortmund 2-0 Real Madrid (UEFA Champions League)
Real Sociedad 0-4 Real Madrid (La Liga)
Real Madrid 3-0 Borussia Dortmund (UEFA Champions League)

During the last five games that Los Merengues have participated in, they have only lost one. The worry there is that the one game they lost was against a German side in Germany who are in second place. Now, they must fight a lot harder as they will be playing against Bayern Munich, a team that have already won the Bundesliga and are simply concentrating on the game coming up against Real Madrid.

The return of Cristiano Ronaldo and the win against Barcelona may be a massive boost for the team but that doesn’t mean that it will be making the game any easier. Real Madrid have shown that they are capable of beating the big teams without Ronaldo as Gareth Bale has been in sensational form recently. Either way, it will be a very difficult match against the favorites of the competition, Bayern Munich.

Danger Man: Gareth Bale
Gareth Bale will surely be ready for this upcoming challenge after a great performance last week against Barcelona. He will be looking to continue this against Bayern Munich and will surely be more than prepared to show everyone what he is capable of.

Bayern Munich:

Bayern Munich come into this game as the favorites to win the UEFA Champions League. They are on track of completing the treble after already winning the Bundesliga, in the semi-finals of the Champions League, and are in the final of the German Cup against Borussia Dortmund. With that said, they will be very cautious against Real Madrid as they know that Los Merengues will be able to cause danger.

If Bayern Munich are the favorites of the competition, then Real Madrid are the second favorite. This is the most difficult game coming up for the Germans and they will be willing to go all in as they target their second UEFA Champions League title in a row, which is something that no other club has ever done before.

Bayern Munich’s Last 5 Games:

Eintracht Braunshweig 0-2 Bayern Munich (Bundesliga)
Bayern Munich 5-1 Kaiserslautern (German DFB Pokal)
Bayern Munich 0-3 Borussia Dortmund (Bundesliga)
Bayern Munich 3-1 Manchester United (UEFA Champions League)
Ausburg 1-0 Bayern Munich (Bundesliga)

It could be said that Bayern Munich haven’t been doing too well in the Bundesliga recently but you have to keep in mind that they have been resting players and have not been playing with full intensity since they have already won the league. When it came to the games that mattered, they have not disappointed at all as they beat Manchester United in the Champions League and Kaiserslautern in the German Cup. Now, they will be looking to beat Real Madrid as they continue their search for the title.

Danger Man: Arjen Robben
The former Real Madrid winger, Arjen Robben, will be prepared to show his former employers what they missed out on as he continues to have a great season. With the game being played in Madrid, he will want to come out with his best performance to date.

There is no denying that this is a game that will be treated as a final. Both Real Madrid and Bayern Munich will be looking to continue their search for the title and have to get past this final obstacle to get to the final against the winner between Atletico Madrid and Chelsea. No one can predict what the outcome is going to be as it could really go either way…
