Real Madrid visited Real Valladolid as they tried to keep their title hopes alive after a disappointing draw against Valencia earlier this week. It simply wasn’t meant to be as Real Madrid came out with only a point.

Starting Lineup:

Carlo Ancelotti named the strongest available squad as he knew that he needed the three points on the night. With a lot of injuries in the squad, the starting eleven consisted of:

Iker Casillas [C], Nacho, Pepe, Sergio Ramos, Fabio Coentrao, Xabi Alonso, Luka Modric, Angel Di Maria, Isco, Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema

Real Valladolid –
Humberto Osorio (85′)

Real Madrid –
Sergio Ramos (35′)

Iker Casillas:

Iker Casillas was able to play his first La Liga game of the season as Carlo Ancelotti knows that he needs to be 100% prepared for the UEFA Champions League Final. The Real Madrid captain did not really have much to do as he was a spectator throughout parts of the game but, when he was finally called up, he wasn’t able to deliver after Humberto Osorio’s header was deflected of Asier Illarramendi towards the end of the game. Of course, Casillas is not to blame for conceding that goal.

Cristiano Ronaldo:

Cristiano Ronaldo started the game as he was ready to score yet again but a minor injury forced him off for Alvaro Morata after only eight minutes. He was very clearly frustrated and spent the rest of the game on the bench as he was trying to help the team out in whatever way possible. Hopefully, the Portuguese can be fully fit soon as the UEFA Champions League Final is coming up in a little over two weeks. Carlo Ancelotti will need to make sure that all his star players are fully ready to deliver on the night and therefore will probably need to rotate the team quite a bit during the next two games.

Real Madrid came into this game with a lot of injuries to worry about and the game against Real Valladolid added more to the list. Many people are worried now as our injury list increases so close to the Final of the Champions League. Throughout this season, many have said that the Real Madrid Medical Staff need to be changed and this is simply proof of that as they are not able to bring the players back fully recovered. What Ronaldo felt against Valladolid is him aggravating an old injury even though he was declared “fully fit” for the game. Real Madrid’s injury list at this moment is:

-Sami Khedira
-Cristiano Ronaldo
-Jese Rodriguez
-Angel Di Maria
-Gareth Bale
-Alvaro Arbeloa
-Luka Modric (Minor Discomfort)

This is not some kind of joke, I assure you. Real Madrid really need to make sure that all the players are available for the Final and will need to make a few rotations to make it happen.

The League Is Over?

After Real Madrid’s draw against Real Valladolid, they are now in third place behind Atletico Madrid and Barcelona. Of course, it is not yet mathematically possible for Los Merengues to win La Liga but it has become extremely difficult. Now, Carlo Ancelotti will need to make the decision on whether to rest his key players so he can have them prepared or to play them incase Real Madrid are able to win La Liga. I personally go with the former choice because La Decima is so close and winning the league seems like a very difficult mission at the moment.

Sergio Ramos:

Our savior in recent weeks, Sergio Ramos has been scoring goals and keeping up his defensive duties perfectly. Against Real Valladolid, with the absence of Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale, Sergio Ramos took a free-kick that was simply a joy for everyone to see. The Spanish defender is certainly at his best right now and will want to do everything that he possibly can in order to continue this form until the end of the season.
