Real Madrid visited Celta de Vigo in hope to keep their extremely slim title hopes alive but they weren’t able to come out with anything after losing 2-0 due to two defensive mistakes.

Starting Lineup:

Carlo Ancelotti fielded a very unique starting eleven as he was hoping that they would be able to make the difference. With that said, he didn’t really have much of a choice as the team have many injuries and he needs them to be fully fit for the UEFA Champions League Final in Lisbon. The starting lineup consisted of:

Diego Lopez, Alvaro Arbeloa, Nacho, Sergio Ramos [C], Marcelo, Xabi Alonso, Sami Khedira, Carlos Casemiro, Luka Modric, Isco, and Alvaro Morata

Scorers:

Celta de Vigo –
Charles de Oliveira (43′)

All Title Hopes Gone:

Real Madrid would have been in pole position to win La Liga had they performed well after the semi-finals against Bayern Munich. With Atletico Madrid and Barcelona both slipping up, Los Merengues would have had a great opportunity to come out with a twist in the League. After only getting two points from a possible nine in their last three games, Real Madrid now find themselves in third place and with no possible chance of winning the competition. It will all come down to who wins between Atletico Madrid and Barcelona as they play against each other next week.

Next Game Is A Formality:

Real Madrid still have one game left in La Liga, which will be against Espanyol. As both teams have nothing to play for, it will be a formality and I’m sure that Carlo Ancelotti will be using that game to play some players who haven’t gotten many minutes while also giving some of the players some time on the pitch to be prepared for the Final, which will be on the same week. I’m expecting to see players such as Iker Casillas (confirmed to play the game), Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema, and Gareth Bale. With that said, I’m not expecting all of them to play the full 90 minutes as they need to be prepared for the game against Atletico Madrid.

Alvaro Arbeloa & Sami Khedira:

Some good news for Real Madrid as both, Alvaro Arbeloa and Sami Khedira, have returned from their injuries. Both players were able to start the game against Celta de Vigo but were substituted after 55 minutes as Carlo Ancelotti does not want to take any chances with them. They performed quite well and both left the game with no problems. With the Final coming up soon, Ancelotti needs as many people to be prepared as possible.

Sergio Ramos & Xabi Alonso:

Sergio Ramos and Xabi Alonso both made weird defensive mistakes, which led to Charles de Oliveira scoring two goals. Sergio Ramos was tackled right in front of the box by Charles but, instead of getting up and trying to defend, he decided to complain to the referee that it should have been a foul as Charles went one-on-one with Diego Lopez and got the ball into the back of the net. As for Xabi Alonso, he had the ball on the right and decided to pass it to Lopez as Charles was right there to take the ball, dribble past Diego Lopez, and make it 2-0. Both mistakes were easily avoidable as Real Madrid didn’t seem like they were hungry for that win.

My Personal Player Ratings:
