Competition: UEFA Champions League (Final)
Venue: Estadio da Luz (Lisbon, Portugal)
Time: 9:45 PM (KSA)
This is it. The time has come. Real Madrid will be playing against Atletico Madrid as both teams aim to be crowned Champions of Europe tomorrow night. History has already been made as this is the first time that both teams from the same city will play against each other in the Final. Also, this is Atletico Madrid’s first time in this round of the competition while Real Madrid will be aiming for La Decima (Their tenth Champions League title).
Real Madrid go into this game with an extraordinary amount of pressure on their shoulders. They know that, after 12 years of waiting, this could finally be the chance to win their tenth UEFA Champions League crown and they really cannot let this slip. They have seen their hopes and dreams crash during every single year and now they have been able to make it all the way to the Final where nothing but a win will be accepted.
‘La Decima’ is an obsession for the club and it is an obsession that keeps on increasing every single year. The players and staff at the club keep trying to insist that it is not technically an “obsession” but it is very clear to see that they all feel as though this is something that they absolutely need. Now, they have the chance of winning it against their city rivals, Atletico Madrid.
Overall, this has been quite a good season for Los Merengues. They have been able to win the Copa del Rey by beating Barcelona in the Final as they also knocked Atletico Madrid out of the semi-finals with a 5-0 aggregate win. Of course, no one will be concentrating on that since Atletico didn’t seem to be playing with their full potential and a lot has changed for the team since then. As for La Liga, Real Madrid would have certainly hoped for a better season as they ended up being in third place (tied on points with Barcelona) while Atletico Madrid were able to do what seemed impossible and be crowned as the Champions of Spain.
Real Madrid go into this game with a few worries though as they have some very significant players who will not be able to take the pitch:
Real Madrid Players To Miss The Final –
Xabi Alonso (Suspended)
Jese Rodriguez (Injured)
Karim Benzema (Major Doubt)
All of the players who are in the list above are good enough to be in the Real Madrid starting lineup tomorrow night but won’t be able to because of the mentioned reasons. Karim Benzema is the only player who may be able to take the field tomorrow but he surely won’t be at 100% on the night. The problem is that another player who may face some injury problems in Lisbon is Cristiano Ronaldo, who has missed Real Madrid’s last few games because of an injury.
Things are not looking too great for Los Blancos but they do have the squad depth to be able to replace some of their players. Everyone will surely be prepared to give their all on the pitch and will surely be playing at their best because they know that this is the only way they will come out with the win.
Real Madrid’s Run In The UEFA Champions League –
Galatasaray 1-6 Real Madrid
Real Madrid 4-0 Copenhagen
Real Madrid 2-1 Juventus
Juventus 2-2 Real Madrid
Real Madrid 4-1 Galatasaray
Copenhagen 0-2 Real Madrid
Schalke 1-6 Real Madrid
Real Madrid 3-1 Schalke
Real Madrid 3-0 Borussia Dortmund
Borussia Dortmund 2-0 Real Madrid
Real Madrid 1-0 Bayern Munich
Bayern Munich 0-4 Real Madrid
Real Madrid have had some great results in the competition so far, except for the one game against Borussia Dortmund which they were able to afford losing. Other than that, they were strong and showed everyone how good they really were especially against Bayern Munich. It’s not over yet as they need to win their last game to make this season count. If they lose, everything will be forgotten.
My Predicted Real Madrid Lineup –
Iker Casillas; Daniel Carvajal, Raphael Varane, Sergio Ramos, Fabio Coentrao; Asier Illarramendi, Luka Modric, Gareth Bale, Angel Di Maria, Cristiano Ronaldo; Karim Benzema
Atletico Madrid have practically done the impossible this season so far. Not so long ago, they were a team that no one really felt could make a difference whether it was in La Liga or the UEFA Champions League. This year though, they are a team that have exceeded all expectations as they find themselves as Champions of Spain and competing in the Final of the UEFA Champions League. With Diego Simeone as their manager, he has been able to give them a sense of belief and determination that is extremely rare to see. With all that and their love for the game, they have been able to make it past every hurdle and show everyone that they really are a team we should be aware of.
Atletico Madrid will be playing the game with pretty much nothing to lose. If they are able to beat Real Madrid, then they will be Champions of Europe and will be unbelievably happy with their success this season of course. If they lose, then no one would blame them especially since they have won La Liga and have never played a match this important before. Don’t get me wrong, Atletico Madrid will be coming out with full force as they truly believe that this is a game that they can win and why not? They have already beaten Real Madrid in the league this season and they are confident of repeating it.
When it comes to their injuries, they don’t have too much to worry about. Arda Turan will surely be back for the game on Saturday while Diego Costa, who was expected to miss the game, has traveled to Serbia and a doctor there has given him “horse placenta” for his leg. Apparently, that worked as he trained with the team. Not sure whether he will end up missing the game once the time comes, but for now it looks like he will be ready to play.
Atletico Madrid’s Run In The UEFA Champions League –
Atletico Madrid 3-1 Zenit St. Petersburg
Porto 1-2 Atletico Madrid
Austria Wien 0-3 Atletico Madrid
Atletico Madrid 4-0 Austra Wien
Zenit St. Petersburg 1-1 Atletico Madrid
Atletico Madrid 2-0 Porto
AC Milan 0-1 Atletico Madrid
Atletico Madrid 4-1 AC Milan
Barcelona 1-1 Atletico Madrid
Atletico Madrid 1-0 Barcelona
Atletico Madrid 0-0 Chelsea
Chelsea 1-3 Atletico Madrid
Atletico Madrid have had a fantastic run so far in the UEFA Champions League as they go into the final with no losses in the competition. They will surely want to keep this run up but will be very wary of the team that they will play in the Fianl. They will need to keep up their form and intensity throughout the game as that is the way to win. This is their last game of the season and they will not have to worry about fatigue or anything. Their main problem will be the pressure since they have never played a game this massive before. With that said, they have exceeded all expectations and will want to make sure they do it one last time.
My Expected Atletico Madrid Lineup:
Thibaut Courtois; Juanfran, Diego Godin, Miranda, Felipe Luis; Gabi, Tiago Mendes, Koke, Mario Suarez; Raul Garcia, David Villa
This is an extremely difficult game for anyone to predict as both teams will be going into this game and play their hearts out. Nothing will be left aside as both managers are surely doing everything in their power to come out and play a perfect game. Anything is possible tomorrow night. The UEFA Champions League is always full of surprises…
