The group stages of the 2014 FIFA World Cup is now over as some Real Madrid players will be making it through to the next round while others will have to go home and say goodbye to this wonderful competition. Here is how the Real Madrid players have done in Round 3 of the tournament.
Australia 0-3 Spain:
Iker Casillas (Spain) –
Did not pay as he was benched during the game.
Sergio Ramos (Spain) –
A good display by Sergio Ramos against Australia as he completed many of his passes and was able to try to keep the game going forward as much as possible. Will be happy to come out with a clean sheet on the night.
Xabi Alonso (Spain) –
Xabi Alonso was able to complete 94% of his passes in midfield and was also able to keep his position organized. With the team being able to win 3-0, it wasn’t a very difficult night for the Spanish midfielder and he should be content with his display against Australia.
Cameroon 1-4 Brazil:
Marcelo (Brazil) –
Marcelo was able to help out in attack quite well and get an assist from open play on the night. Will be slightly unhappy that his team conceded a goal but will surely be happy with the win and his performance on the night. After a shaky start to the competition, Marcelo was able to bounce back extremely well and show what he is capable of.
Croatia 1-3 Mexico:
Luka Modric (Croatia) –
Had a good game overall but wasn’t able to do enough for the win. Mexico played a massive game and the Croatians were simply not able to keep up on the night. Luka Modric tried to keep the midfield safe but it was difficult and threfore this loss saw Croatia leave the competition.
Nigeria 2-3 Argentina:
Angel Di Maria (Argentina) –
Angel Di Maria was all over the place on the night and was able to get five shots on target but, unfortunately, none of them were able to find the back of the net. Had a few errors during the game but will be quite happy with his performance and the fact that Argentina are now in the next round of the competition.
Ecuador 0-0 France:
Raphael Varane (France) –
Came on as a substitute during the game and performed really well. Completed all his passes from defense and was able to keep the back organized throughout the game. Will be happy to have gotten some rest as well ahead of the next round of the competition.
Karim Benzema (France) –
After two Man-Of-The-Match performances so far, there was a lot expected from the French attacker. He played well but unfortunately was not able to make a difference in the game although he was always a major threat. Will be looking to continue his great tournament during the next round.
Portugal 2-1 Ghana:
Fabio Coentrao (Portugal) –
Did not play due to an injury received in Portugal’s opening game against Germany.
Pepe (Portugal) –
After a very poor display against Germany in the opening game, in which Pepe was given a red card, he came back and showed that he was able to learn from that mistake after a very calm and confident performance in defense. Pepe was always ready to be called upon and was able to do his job quite well.
Cristiano Ronaldo (Portugal) –
Had a great game and showed that he was able to help his team. Had a few great opportunities to score but was unlucky in front of a great goalkeeper. Cristiano was still able to get his name on the scoresheet but unfortunately it wasn’t enough for them to make it through to the next round.
USA 0-1 Germany:
Sami Khedira (Germany) –
Was an unused substitute in the game as Germany now prepare for the next round of the tournament.
