Real Madrid hosted Ludogorets in the UEFA Champions League as they aimed for six wins out of six in the group stage of the competition.

Starting Lineup:

Even though Real Madrid have secured their place in the next round of the competition, Carlo Ancelotti named quite a strong starting lineup on the night with players such as Toni Kroos and Gareth Bale (who apparently need rest) being named. The starting lineup consisted of:

Keylor Navas, Alvaro Arbeloa, Raphael Varane, Nacho, Fabio Coentrao, Toni Kroos, Asier Illarramendi, Gareth Bale, Isco, Cristiano Ronaldo [C], and Chicharito

Real Madrid –
Cristiano Ronaldo (20′)
Gareth Bale (38′)
Alvaro Arbeloa (79′)
Alvaro Medran (88′)

Ludogorets –

Cristiano Ronaldo:

Cristiano Ronaldo started the game last night and was able to be named captain of the team. He played a great match overall and was also able to get his name on the scoresheet through a penalty to open the scoring. The Portuguese midfielder was all over the place as he did everything to help the team out in whatever way possible. He also assisted Alvaro Arbeloa for the third goal of the game against Ludogorets.

Alvaro Medran:

Alvaro Medran came on as a substitute for Gareth Bale and was able to get his name on the scoresheet as he scored his first ever goal for the Real Madrid senior squad. This goal will prove to be extremely beneficial for the young Spanish midfielder as he will be hoping for more opportunities during the season. Carlo Ancelotti has already shown that he trusts the midfielder as he calls him up for many of the La Liga games. With time, he could end up becoming an important member of this team.

Earlier this week, Chicharito said that he needed regular football and it really showed against Ludogorets. Javier Hernandez was given the opportunity to play for the full 90 minutes as he tried taking his chances. Towards the end, it reached a point of desperation as he simply tried shooting every single time the ball reached him. The Mexican forward needs to calm down and know that his chances will come. Even if he doesn’t score in a game, he can still help in other ways. The lack of playing time is frustrating him.

Alvaro Arbeloa:

Voted man-of-the-match by UEFA after his performance against Ludogorets, Alvaro Arbeloa had a surprisingly good game overall. He made his usual mistakes at times but he was very up for the game and showed his enthusiasm throughout the game. Hopefully he can keep this up for the next time he is named in the starting eleven.

Keylor Navas:

Keylor Navas was the goalkeeper chosen to start against Ludogorets and he played brilliantly. The Costa Rican goalkeeper was always up for the challenges and came out with some fantastic saves as he was aware and on his feet whenever Ludogorets attacked. It seems as though the confidence is increasing with him and it will prove to be extremely helpful in the Copa del Rey as the next opponents will be Atletico Madrid.
