Real  Madrid were finally able to play their game-in-hand against Sevilla after the original date was postponed due to Los Merengues having the FIFA Club World Cup to play in.

Starting Lineup:

Many people were expecting Carlo Ancelotti to make changes in the lineup since players such as Marcelo and James Rodriguez were one-card away from suspension. They both started the game as Ancelotti took no major risks though. The starting lineup consisted of:

Iker Casillas [C], Alvaro Arbeloa, Raphael Varane, Sergio Ramos, Marcelo, Toni Kroos, Sami Khedira, Gareth Bale, James  Rodriguez, Isco, and  Karim Benzema

Real Madrid –
James Rodriguez (12′)
Jese Rodriguez (36′)

Sevilla –
Iago Aspas (80′)

Injuries Build Up:

Carlo Ancelotti decided to rest some players while others, such as Pepe and Luka Modric, are out with injuries. With the derby against Atletico Madrid coming up on Saturday, the last thing the team needed were other injuries and that’s what happened against Sevilla. Sergio Ramos had to be taken off early in the first half and replaced by Nacho Fernandez while James Rodriguez also got injured and had to be replaced with Jese. The problem is that Los Meregues really need the team to stay fit this month and Ancelotti will now have some major decisions to make when it comes to having a team prepared for Atletico this weekend.

Gareth Bale:

It seems like I always have to write about Gareth Bale with every week that’s passing but this time it’s going to be a tad different. Bale didn’t have a great game against Sevilla and he will surely want to improve from it. With the way our fans have been acting recently, I really don’t see him being able to gain his form again. He needs people to support him and be behind him at this time while all that he’s getting is constant criticism and hate from many fans around the world. Let’s try to be calm with him and give him some time so that he can improve.

Nacho came in early in the first half as he replaced Sergio Ramos and he was absolutely brilliant! He was always there to help out with his tackling was perfect throughout the whole game. The Spanish defender barely gets any time to play and he needs to take whatever time he has in order to prove himself and that is exactly what he did against Sevilla. Carlo Ancelotti even admitted that the defender was great during his post-match press conference. Will we see Nacho in the lineup against Atletico Madrid? It may actually happen if Pepe and Sergio Ramos aren’t able to recover in time!

Jese Rodriguez:

Jese Rodriguez is another player who started the game off on the bench but had to come in early in the first half to replace James Rodriguez. Jese came on and showed that there are no more injury worries for him as he went into every challenge, made his runs and sprints, and was also able to get his name on the scoresheet! This will definitely be a memorable day for the Spanish midfielder and hopefully we will be able to see more of him soon.

Marcelo was risked against Sevilla and was one yellow-card away from suspension. Unfortunately, he got the yellow card for a tackle that actually wasn’t even supposed to be a foul. If Real Madrid don’t appeal (or their appeal gets rejected), he will be missing the match against Atletico Madrid on Saturday and Ancelotti will need to find a suitable replacement. It seems as though Fabio Coentrao will be fit for the game but it may be risky starting him right after he comes back from injury.
