Real Madrid went into this match with a lot of pressure as they were playing their first home game of the season, ended their last match in a 0-0 draw, and were facing criticism that they aren’t able to score goals… Well, that didn’t stop them after they came out with a memorable 5-0 win on the night.

Starting Lineup:

Rafael Benitez made a couple changes to the team that he had on the first week as he left nothing to chance this time around with Karim Benzema returning from injury. The starting lineup consisted of:

Keylor Navas, Danilo, Sergio Ramos [C], Raphael Varane, Marcelo, Toni Kroos, Luka Modric, James Rodriguez, Gareth Bale, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Karim Benzema

Real Madrid –
Gareth Bale (2′)
James Rodriguez (39′)
Karim Benzema (47′)
James Rodriguez (50′)
Gareth Bale (89′)

Real Betis –

Gareth Bale:

Gareth Bale has been facing a lot of criticism since last season and during the summer as his form has dipped when comparing it to his first season with Real Madrid. This year, he will really need to step up his game in order to probe many of the fans wrong and, if he can continue coming out with performances like the one he had against Real Betis, then we are in for a massive season for the winger! The Welshman came out with two great goals, one of which was a screamer from outside of the box. Add to that the assist he had for Benzema’s goal and it was a perfect game for him!

Keylor Navas:

With all the talk surrounding his future and the possible arrival of David De Gea from Manchester United, Keylor Navas is simply not letting any of it get to him. His performance against Real Betis was magnificent and he has been able to prove that he at least deserves a chance to show what he is capable of. Whether it was saving the penalty or somehow stealing the ball from the opponents feet, Keylor Navas was great in the match and I’m sure we still haven’t seen him at his best yet.

What a signing! Danilo played as a starter again and it seems as though he has been with the squad for ages! He understands everyone quite well while he has also been able to show just how good he is whether it is defensively or with his attacking duties. The Brazilian left-back has fit in perfectly and it will be very interesting to see what he is capable of as the season goes on. Will he be completely taking over from Daniel Carvajal? Well, it definitely remains to be seen…

James Rodriguez:

What a performance from James Rodriguez! Two unbelievable goals came from a free-kick that went in off the post and a beautifully unexpected overhead kick as he helped the team come out with the convincing win. The Colombian midfielder was also able to get himself an assist for Gareth Bale’s first goal of the match. This was truly a memorable night for James as he continues to impress.

Karim Benzema:

Karim Benzema was a surprise inclusion in the starting lineup as he has spent over a month recovering from an injury but it looks like he is fully fit to take part with the team. The Frenchman played around 50 minutes of the game as he was all over the place doing everything in his power to help the team. Furthermore, he was able to score a great header to get Real Madrid’s third goal of the match! It really seems as though the BBC is officially back and we will really need them in the coming games.
