Real Madrid hosted Granada in what was expected to be a straight-forward win but ended up coming out with the three points thanks to a goal by Karim Benzema

Starting Lineup:

Rafael Benitez didn’t end up resting many players as he came out with his strongest possible starting eleven on the night given the injuries to the team. The starting eleven consisted of:

Keylor Navas, Daniel Carvajal, Pepe, Raphael Varane, Marcelo [C], Toni Kroos, Luka Modric, Lucas Vazquez, Isco, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Karim Benzema

Real Madrid –
Karim Benzema (55′)

Granada –

Lack of Steam?

Real Madrid came out against Granada after scoring 10 goals last week in two game and conceding none. I’m not saying that I expected them to come out with another massive victory but I surely didn’t expect to see what I saw during the game. Simple passes, runs, and other things didn’t work out for them. They weren’t able to create the same dangerous chances that they’re usually used to creating and also had a lot of problems at the back as Granada were extremely close to scoring a few times. With a game coming up against Athletic Bilbao on Wednesday, we really do need to be careful…

Keylor Navas:

Another match and another clean sheet for Keylor Navas! He was surely our savior against Granada with another amazing performance! Navas was always 100% prepared whenever he was called upon and made the right decisions to keep Granada from coming out with anything in the match. With the defense not doing the job too well, Navas was there to make sure nothing drastic came out of it.

Lucas Vazquez:

Lucas Vazquez got the chance to get his first start for Real Madrid and, even though he didn’t come out with anything too significant, it’s an appearance that he can surely be proud of. The young Spanish winger was always hyped up and ready to receive the ball and play it into the dangerous zones. He looked very comfortable on the ball and was able to complete the game quite well. We will be expecting to see more from him during the season but, as a start, it’s definitely not too bad.

Denis Cheryshev:

After spending the past few seasons on loan to different clubs, Real Madrid have decided to keep Denis Cheryshev in their roster for this season. He wasn’t called up to any of the first few games but he was against Granada and was also given the chance to come on for his debut. The Russian player did well overall and was almost able to get his name on the scoresheet as well! He isn’t a player that we will be seeing every single match, but I’m sure that he will occasionally get his opportunities to shine.
