Real Madrid visited Athletic Bilbao as they were able to come out with a hard-fought 2-1 win on the night and move up to first place after Barcelona’s shocking 4-1 loss against Celtq de Vigo
Starting Lineup:

Rafael Benitez decided to give Mateo Kovacic his first start of the season as Los Blancos came out with a strong side. The starting eleven consisted of:

Keylor Navas, Daniel Carvajal, Pepe, Raphael Varane, Marcelo [C], Toni Kroos, Luka Modric, Isco, Mateo Kovacic, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Karim Benzema

Athletic Bilbao –

Sabin Marino (67′)

Real Madrid –

Karim Benzema (19′)

Karim Benzema (70′)

Raphael Varane:

Raphael Varane was able to start more games this season and it’s extremely obvious why Benitez trusts him so much. The French defender was able to show his skill with some extremely decisive tackling and good passes to try keeping the opponents at bay for most of the match. Varane truly deserves the minutes that he is getting so far and hopefully he can keep it going for the rest of the year.

First Goal Conceded –

Real Madrid were able to go through their matches this season without conceding any goals until the match against Athletic Bilbao. Keylor Navas had a massive game and is quite unlucky to end up seeing a shot go past him but he will surely be happy to see that Real Madrid were still able to come out with all three points on the night.

Keylor Navas –

It’s actually extremely difficult for me to go through one of my post-match articles without mentioning Keylor Navas these days! Even though he conceded a goal, he made some unbelievably amazing saves that kept Los Blancos with a fighting chance to win the game! Thankfully, Karim Benzema was able to take advantage and score two goals to secure three points for the Men in White.

First Place:

After the win against Athletic Bilbao and Barcelona’s 4-1 loss to Celta de Vigo, Real Madrid are now in first place tied on points with Celta de Vigo. It is now in their hands to keep up their form in order to come out with the desired result at the end of the season…
