Real Madrid hosted Las Palmas during La Liga as they played a cautious match and were able to come out with a straight-forward three points.
Rafael Benitez didn’t want to take any major risks but also needed a strong team to start, especially keeping in mind all the injuries. The starting lineup consisted of:
Kiko Casilla, Danilo, Raphael Varane, Nacho, Marcelo [C], Toni Kroos, Carlos Casemiro, Isco, Luka Modric, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Jese
Real Madrid –
Cristiano Ronaldo (14′)
Las Palmas –
This is the Jese that we all were waiting to see! What a performance from the Spanish forward against Las Palmas! I know that this was a match against Las Palmas (no disrespect to them there) but it was still a performance that will definitely boost his confidence. Rafael Benitez has been giving him many opportunities to show his capabilities so it’s great to see that he is able to take advantage of the minutes that he’s receiving.
Kiko Casilla was finally able to make his debut for Real Madrid and he did quite well after coming out with some great saves. Yes, he conceded a goal but it was no fault of his own as the defense simply seemed lost and confused while defending a corner. Even though Keylor Navas has been absolutely spectacular so far this season, it’s nice to see Casilla get a few minutes.
I have said this before and I feel like I need to say it again: Cristiano Ronaldo is not himself. We are speaking about a player who is always considered as one of the best two players in the world and now I personally would not put him that high up. His recent performances have been disappointing to say the least. The Portuguese was able to get his name on the scoresheet against Las Palmas but that’s pretty much all that he did other than complaining about a few decisions from the referee that haven’t gone his way.
My Personal Player Ratings:
Kiko Casilla: 8.5/10
Raphael Varane: 8/10
Toni Kroos: 8/10
Carlos Casemiro: 8/10
Luka Modric: 8/10
Cristiano Ronaldo: 6/10
