Real Madrid hosted Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Champions League as they came out with an extremely lucky three points at the end of the match.
Rafael Benitez had to be slightly cautious about the starting lineup because of all the injuries. He was still able to come out with a strong team as the starting eleven consisted of:
Keylor Navas, Danilo, Raphael Varane, Sergio Ramos [C], Marcelo, Carlos Casemiro, Toni Kroos, Isco, Luka Modric, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Jese
Yet again, Luka Modric was a beast in midfield as he always had control of a game that, let’s be completely honest with each other here, Real Madrid had no control over. In a match where the team was under-performing though, Luka Modric was the small glimpse of hope that we had throughout the match. The Croatian was doing his job perfectly and, on a better day, it would have been rewarded with an assist at the least.
Carlos Casemiro is yet another player who shined during the match as he did everything in his power to keep the offense at bay throughout the match. It is great seeing someone in his position doing so well and getting the minutes that he truly deserves from Rafael Benitez. I’ve mentioned this before but his loan spell at Porto has done wonders for the Brazilian and he continues to improve with every single match.
Nacho came on as a substitute to replace Marcelo who got injured during the first half. The Spanish defender was exceptional and was also able to get his name on the score sheet with a cross gone wrong! Even though he didn’t mean to score the goal, it will do wonders for his confidence as the season goes on.
