Real Madrid visited Eibar and came out with a much-needed three points in a performance that none of us would probably want to see ever again.
Rafael Benitez knows that taking any chances now is a bad idea whether he was worried about the team or even his own job. The starting lineup consisted of:
Keylor Navas, Daniel Carvajal, Pepe [C], Nacho, Danilo, Casemiro, Toni Kroos, Luka Modric, Gareth Bale, James Rodriguez, and Cristiano Ronaldo
Gareth Bale (43′)
Cristiano Ronaldo (82′)
Yet another disappointing performance for Cristiano Ronaldo on the night against Eibar. The Portuguese forward was able to get his name on the scoresheet through a penalty but missed a few chances, especially a one-on-one that he would have scored on any other day. Players make mistakes, it happens, but there is no denying that Cristiano Ronaldo has not been himself this season at Real Madrid…
Since Carlo Ancelotti was in charge of Real Madrid last season, I haven’t been able to see Toni Kroos show his best. Under Rafael Benitez, it is clear that the German midfielder is uncomfortable with his new role but his performance against Eibar was definitely one to remember! Toni Kroos was distributing the ball very well and winning back possession for the team on countless occasions. Hopefully it’s uphill from here.
Danilo is one of the players who have started the season strongly but, as things got tough, his performance was affected. You can’t judge a player by a few games and not that the season wore on, we can see many faults that have hurt us in the past. He isn’t better than Daniel Carvajal but is surely a good back-up (better than Alvaro Arbeloa, I think we can agree on that!). Will he improve? I guess it’s just a game of patience to see if he will live up to the hype.
