Real Madrid hosted Deportivo La Coruna for Zinedine Zidane’s first game in charge as they could not have asked for a better start with a convincing 5-0 win.

Starting Lineup:

As expected, Zidane didn’t want to take any risks as he decided to come out with an expected strong team on the night. The starting lineup consisted of:

Keylor Navas, Daniel Carvajal, Pepe, Sergio Ramos [C], Marcelo, Toni Kroos, Luka Modric, Gareth Bale, Isco, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Karim Benzema

Real Madrid –
Karim Benzema (15′)
Gareth Bale (22′)
Gareth Bale (49′)
Gareth Bale (63′)
Karim Benzema (90′)

Deportivo La Coruna –

Isco hasn’t really featured too much this season, especially after falling out of favor with Rafael Benitez. Against Deportivo La Coruna, Zidane decided to play him as a starter and his choice was warranted, even though the Spanish midfielder didn’t really have a great match. Like all players, Isco needs to know that the manager has faith in him. From that, he will definitely improve and go back to showing us all just how good he actually is! It won’t take too long either, expect to see him at his best very soon!

Cristiano Ronaldo:

Cristiano Ronaldo will understandably be very disappointed that he wasn’t able to get his name on the scoresheet but that should definitely not take away from a good performance. The Portuguese was always available and ready to help out his teammates while he was able to come out with an assist early in the second half. We were able to see some minor glimpses of the Ronaldo that we miss and hopefully it will continue improving from here since he will be vital to our season as always.

Gareth Bale:

What a match. What a night. What a performance. Gareth Bale came out with a world-class performance against Deportivo La Coruna and was able to score a highly deserved hat-trick on the night. He has now officially become the first British player in the history of La Liga to score two hat-tricks in one season! What a player.

Zinedine Zidane:

Zinedine Zidane could not have asked for a better start to his managerial career with Real Madrid as he was already able to see some of his ideas in play. Of course, it has only been a few days and he will need a lot more time to fully instill his ideas but it was a great start. Of course, we can also say that the reason is because the players are excited about the manager but it would be unfair not to give Zidane some credit for at least the way he set up the team and organized the midfield.
