Real Madrid visited Real Betis as they weren’t able to come out with the three points on the night even though they were by far the stronger team.

Starting Lineup:

Zinedine Zidane decided to make a couple changes to the squad as he benched Daniel Carvajal and played James Rodriguez instead of the injured Gareth Bale. The starting lineup consisted of:

Keylor Navas, Danilo, Pepe, Raphael Varane, Marcelo [C], Toni Kroos, Luka Modric, James Rodriguez, Isco, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Karim Benzema

Real Betis –
Alvaro Cejudo (7′)

Real Madrid –
Karim Benzema (71′)

This was Danilo’s first match under Zinedine Zidane and it was definitely one to forget for the Brazilian. Now, if you decide to look through Twitter, you will definitely see a lot of major overreaction (including a tweet from my side as well) and it wasn’t as bad as they make it out to be. With that said, he wasn’t great especially when it came to his distribution. It’s difficult to see him start many more games with this form.

James Rodriguez:

Similarly to Danilo, this was also James’ first match under Zidane as a starter. The Colombian midfielder came on as a substitute for the past two matches but, with Gareth Bale injured, it was the perfect time for him to show his capabilities. He obviously lacked in match practice but came out with an average performance on the night. We should be seeing him back to his magical self quite soon!

Luka Modric:

Oh. My. God. What a performance from Luka Modric! The Croatian midfielder showed exactly why Zidane counts on him and he came out with some spectacular passes on the night. Modric is one of the most important pillars of this team and he could possibly be the difference between winning and losing titles! This is one performance to remember.

Raphael Varane:

Personally, I feel a lot safer when we have Raphael Varane as part of the defense. The Frenchman plays with such amazing elegance and his decision-making is something you don’t see much anymore, especially when it comes to his age! Even though Real Madrid conceded a goal against Real Betis, it could have possibly been a lot worse if Varane wasn’t there during the night!
