Real Madrid visited Rayo Vallecano in a match that was expected to be straight forward, but almost ended in disaster for the visiting team.

Starting Lineup:

Because of injuries and one eye on the UEFA Champions League clash against Manchester City, Zinedine Zidane had to make a few changes. The starting lineup consisted of:

Keylor Navas, Danilo, Raphael Varane, Pepe, Marcelo [C], Toni Kroos, Mateo Kovacic, Gareth Bale, Isco, Jese, Karim Benzema

Rayo Vallecano –
Adrian Embarba (7′)
Nicolas Miku (14′)

Real Madrid –
Gareth Bale (35′)
Lucas Vazquez (52′)
Gareth Bale (81′)

In short, I simply have no idea how Zinedine Zidane feels comfortable playing Danilo. The Brazilian defender has been given a lot of opportunities to prove himself and has let us down time and time again. His defending is awful and there is no way that he is anywhere close to being good enough for the Los Blancos starting lineup. With Nacho or Alvaro Arbeloa available, Danilo should not be the one picked to start when Daniel Carvajal is unavailable.

Lucas Vazquez:

Probably one of the greatest things to come out of the Rafa Benitez era is the purchase of Lucas Vazquez. The young Spaniard is a joy to watch and was determined from the second he came on the pitch to replace the injured Karim Benzema late in the first half. There is a lot more to come from the youngster and hopefully he will be at this club for many years to come!

Gareth Bale:

With the absence of Cristiano Ronaldo, the pressure was on Gareth Bale and the Welshman delivered! Bale was all over the place as he helped a lot in defending and distribution. Furthermore, his two very well-taken goals on the night helped Real Madrid stay in the title race and live to fight another week.

With the match against Manchester City on Tuesday, people are quite worried about injuries but it seems like things are going to be okay. With Zidane confirming that Cristiano Ronaldo is traveling with the team, it seems like Benzema will be able to as well! Also, players such as Luka Modric and Sergio Ramos were rested for the match so they should be prepared to start. So, if nothing suddenly happens in training, it should be okay.
