Two years ago, Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid made it to the Final of the UEFA Champions League as they made history for it being the first time that two teams from the same city are in the Final against each other. On Saturday, May 28, it happens again in Milan. Let’s take a quick look at both teams fighting for the European trophy.

Atletico Madrid –

Under Diego Simeone, there is definitely no doubt that Atletico Madrid have improved and are on the European radar as one of the most dangerous teams to play against. They have been able to take full advantage of the “underdog” status in the past to make them one of the top three teams in Spain and one of the best in Europe. This season, they have done it again as they find themselves in the Final of the UEFA Champions League and prepare to face their cross-city rivals.

Atletico Madrid’s Run In The UCL:

Galatasaray 0-2 Atletico Madrid
Atletico Madrid 1-2 Benfica
Atletico Madrid 4-0 Astana
Astana 0-0 Atletico Madrid
Atletico Madrid 2-0 Galatasaray
Benfica 1-2 Atletico Madrid

PSV 0-0 Atletico Madrid
Atletico Madrid 0-0 PSV (8-7 Penalties)

Barcelona 2-1 Atletico Madrid
Atletico Madrid 1-0 Barcelona

Atletico Madrid 1-0 Bayern Munich
Bayern Munich 2-1 Atletico Madrid

It has definitely been a very difficult run for Atletico Madrid in the Champions League this year but they have been able to find ways to get through every obstacle that came in their way. The Spaniards have played against some of the best teams in Europe to make it to this stage and they will be doing everything they can to get one more win and lift the trophy. Atletico Madrid will surely be using their disappointment two years ago as motivation. There is no doubt that Real Madrid will have to be at their absolute best if they are going to come out with anything from this match.

My Predicted Lineup:

Oblak, Juanfran, Gimenez, Godin, Felipe Luis, Saul, Gabi, Augusto, Koke, Griezmann, Torres

Real Madrid –

Real Madrid come into this game after a very weird season that saw many different disappointments along the way. After the departure of Rafael Benitez, they are now lead by Zinedine Zidane, who has been able to find a way to bring back the belief to the squad as he got them one point behind Barcelona in La Liga and into the final of the UEFA Champions League. Now, he has one final test this season and there is no doubt that it’s the most difficult one. With most of the world against Real Madrid this time, it makes the fight even harder.

Real Madrid’s Run In The UCL:

Real Madrid 4-0 Shakhtar Donetsk
Malmo 0-2 Real Madrid
Paris Saint Germain 0-0 Real Madrid
Real Madrid 1-0 Paris Saint Germain
Shakhtar Donetsk 3-4 Real Madrid
Real Madrid 8-0 Malmo

AS Roma 0-2 Real Madrid
Real Madrid 2-0 AS Roma

Wolfsburg 2-0 Real Madrid
Real Madrid 3-0 Wolfsburg

Manchester City 0-0 Real Madrid
Real Madrid 1-0 Manchester City

There is no denying the fact that Real Madrid had quite an ‘easy’ run in the build-up to the Final but that does not make them any less deserving of the title. With Keylor Navas only conceding two goals in the competition this year (Kiko Casilla was the goalkeeper in the 3-4 win against Shakhtar Donetsk), he has proven to be one of Real Madrid’s most consistent players so far. Zidane has been manager for less than a full year and will definitely be looking to bring home the title as his first one in his managerial career. What a start that would be!

My Predicted Lineup

Keylor Navas, Carvajal, Pepe, Sergio Ramos, Marcelo, Casemiro, Kroos, Modric, Bale, Ronaldo, Benzema
