Real Madrid were practically given two gifts during the day as Barcelona dropped points to Real Betis with their 1-1 draw while Sevilla were beaten 3-1 by Espanyol. Los Merengues were able to take full advantage of the situation with a 3-0 win against Real Sociedad.

Starting Lineup:

Zinedine Zidane’s list of injured players continuously increases and he keeps having to make changes in order to come out with the best possible team. The starting lineup consisted of:

Keylor Navas, Danilo, Raphael Varane, Sergio Ramos [C], Nacho Fernandez, Carlos Casemiro, Toni Kroos, Mateo Kovacic, Lucas Vazquez, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Karim Benzema

Real Madrid –
Mateo Kovacic (38′)
Cristiano Ronaldo (51′)
Alvaro Morata (82′)

Real Sociedad –

We have to give credit where it’s due and this time Danilo deserves it. Barring a few of his usual passing mistakes and that slip, Danilo was quite solid against Real Sociedad. Zidane continues to play him at right-back and, hopefully, it looks like he’s slowly getting the hang of it. The Brazilian also got a few fans applauding on the night!

Cristiano Ronaldo:

Not the greatest start to the game for Cristiano Ronaldo as the fans took almost any opportunity they got to boo the Portuguese star, but he showed just how influential he could be as the game wore on. His assist to Mateo Kovacic was sublime to say the least and he also took his goal perfectly over the Sociedad goalkeeper. Cristiano Ronaldo’s game has changed drastically due to his age and it seems as though there are times where he doesn’t accept it. When he does though, he can still create magic.

Mateo Kovacic:

Easily Mateo Kovacic’s best game in a Real Madrid shirt as his powerful runs caused havoc among the Real Sociedad players. To top off a magnificent performance, the Croatian was able to get his name on the scoresheet and score his first ever La Liga goal. What a night for Kovacic, who was chosen to replace the injured Luka Modric in midfield.

Karim Benzema:

For the fourth game in a row, Karim Benzema was picked to start up front while Alvaro Morata was forced to watch from the bench. The French attacker was slow and misplaced many of his passes throughout the game. When he was finally taken off for Morata, the Spanish substitute was all over the place and was also to get the third goal of the game after finding the end of Lucas Vazquez’s pinpoint cross. Alvaro Morata definitely deserves a chance to start and the upcoming match against Celta de Vigo would be perfect.
