Real Madrid had to depend on a late goal once again, this time from Marcelo, as they came out with all three points against Valencia. The first goal was scored by Cristiano Ronaldo while Dani Parejo got the equalizer for the visitors.
Here is our starting lineup and bench during the match:
My Personal Player Ratings:
Keylor Navas – 7.5/10
Conceded a goal that he was able to get his hands on but was solid throughout the game. It’s quite clear to see his confidence coming back after some shaky performances earlier this season. We will need him to be at his best at the business end of the campaign and it looks like he’s well on his way there.
Daniel Carvajal – 7.5/10
A great performance by Dani Carvajal as he dominated perfectly. The Spanish right-back continues to show why he’s so important to the squad and he didn’t disappoint against Valencia.
Nacho Fernandez – 7/10
Nacho was picked again in the starting lineup even though Raphael Varane is back from injury and the Spanish defender continued to impress with his subtle yet effective performances. He is never the type to try standing out as he instead focuses on doing his job perfectly.
Sergio Ramos – 7/10
Came back after his one-game suspension and, even though he started the game off quite shaky, he was able to get back into it and come out with one of his usual performances. A solid presence in the back.
Marcelo – 9/10
Another wonderful performance from Marcelo as he was easily the man-of-the-match on the night. Putting aside the fact that he scored the winning goal, the Brazilian was a constant threat throughout the 90 minutes as the Valencia forwards were finding it extremely difficult to get around him
Carlos Casemiro – 5.5/10
With each game that passes, I can’t help but get more irritated with Casemiro. As I explained in my post-match article, the Brazilian is a liability and it’s ALWAYS risky having him on the pitch as you’ll never know when he can get a red card. His distribution of the ball has actually gotten a little worse as well and, with Kovacic on the bench, I think it’s time for a change.
Toni Kroos – 8/10
The German midfielder came out with the type of performance that you would usually expect from him. Toni Kroos was able to distribute the ball perfectly as he made it a lot easier for the team to deal with Valencia in the midfield.
Luka Modric – 8.5/10
Finally coming out with a performance that shows us why we all love him so much, Luka Modric was on fire against Valencia! The Croatian midfielder was a constant threat and was always able to cause damage whenever he got the ball.
James Rodriguez – 7/10
An acceptable performance for James Rodriguez as he did his job but would have probably liked to do a lot more on the night. The Colombian was picked to start and was always looking for a chance to help Los Merengues go forward.
Cristiano Ronaldo – 6.5/10
Would have gotten a lower rating but he scored the opening goal of the match, he also could have gotten a higher rating but he missed a penalty. Cristiano Ronaldo seemed to be looking for ways to score and shoot from practically anywhere instead of looking for the pass, which hurt Los Blancos quite a bit.
Karim Benzema – 5/10
Nowhere near his best performance and only had one good part in the game with a shot that hit the post. Other than that, he was slow and wasn’t helpful in the movement forward for a majority of the game.
Marco Asensio – 7.5/10
Came on for James Rodriguez and gave us a performance that we have come to expect from him. He moved very well with and without the ball and keeps us constantly questioning how it’s possible that he’s so young!
Alvaro Morata – 7/10
Came on for Karim Benzema and, even though he couldn’t get onto the scoresheet, he added a little more flair in the attack and caused Valencia a few problems.
Lucas Vazquez – N/A
Replaced Luka Modric with only a couple minutes left in the match.
