In a match where Real Madrid dominated from start to finish, the team now goes into the second-leg of the semifinals with a strong lead as they have to just concentrate on getting the job done on the night.
Here is our starting lineup and bench during the night:
My Personal Player Ratings:
Keylor Navas – 8.5/10
Came out with an extremely decisive save when Real Madrid were 1-0 up to keep them in the game and finally get a clean sheet when it mattered most.
Daniel Carvajal – 8/10
Unfortunately, had to be taken off at half time due to injury but the first 45 minutes were massive from the right-back! He was in complete control and caused Atletico Madrid all sorts of problems.
Raphael Varane – 7.5/10
A good night and he’s finding his feet once again after coming back from injury. Raphael Varane did his job perfectly and hopefully he can continue on this form until the end of the season.
Sergio Ramos – 8/10
A great night for Sergio Ramos as he was in command at the back. The captain played as we all would expect him to and continued to show his importance in the squad.
Marcelo – 8/10
As always, Marcelo went forward extremely well and caused all sorts of problems on the wing for Atletico’s right-back on the night.
Carlos Casemiro – 8.5/10
I’m usually quite critical of Carlos Casemiro but he had a great night. He did his job to perfection and blocked off many of the dangerous attacks coming his way. His passing seems to have improved and was also able to get the assist on Cristiano Ronaldo’s first goal.
Toni Kroos – 9/10
Simply brilliant on the night as his passing rate of 96% shows just how dependable he is. Toni Kroos took full charge of his position and took advantage of Atletico’s poor positioning on the night to make it a memorable one for the team and for himself.
Luka Modric – 7.5/10
Maybe not the BEST performance from Luka Modric but he did enough to get the job done. Atletico Madrid were not at their best while Los Merengues were dictating the play perfectly from the first until the 90th minute.
Isco – 7/10
Isco was given the chance to roam freely and did so perfectly. It was clear that Atletico Madrid were aware of his danger and given strict instructions to close him down. Unfortunately, that is exactly what he and Zidane would have wanted as it opened space for Cristiano and Benzema going forward.
Cristiano Ronaldo – 10/10
Simply Freaking Brilliant! Cristiano Ronaldo has gotten yet another hat-trick and it’s unbelievable to see him play so beautifully at this level without any regards to his age. The Portuguese was magnificent on the night and continues to break records.
Karim Benzema – 4/10
I was planning to write this with a lower rating to Karim Benzema but his assist to Cristiano Ronaldo for the third goal gets him some brownie points even though horrible defending from Atletico played its part as well. Karim Benzema needs to know that he’s not invincible and do his best to come back into the form that we all know and love from him. He was great earlier in the season but the past few months have been quite a roller-coaster for the French attacker.
Nacho Fernandez – 8.5/10
Came on for Daniel Carvajal in the second half and showed how dependable he could be. Nacho can play at any position in defense and, even though we saw him at center-back for a while due to Varane’s injury, he was on the right during the second 45 minutes of the match and came out with a great performance.
Marco Asensio – 8/10
Came on for Isco and automatically caused problems for Atletico Madrid who were having some trouble catching up with him a lot of the time.
Lucas Vazquez – 8/10
Came on for the last 10 minutes in place of Karim Benzema and his speed and determination threw Atletico off-edge as he was able to grab a very well-taken assist for Cristiano Ronaldo’s third goal on the night.
