There was a lot of back and forth during this summer as Alvaro Morata was initially expected to join Manchester United but talks broke down as the English club went for Romelu Lukaku instead. After that, the Spaniard was expected to stay before Chelsea came in strong and purchased the player for a fee of 80 Million Euros with 5 Million in add-ons.
It is no secret that Alvaro Morata was not very happy at Real Madrid since he wanted more playing time and that was always going to be extremely difficult under Zinedine Zidane and Karim Benzema being the other striker in the squad. Having said that, he was always going to get some time to impress because of Zidane’s rotation policy but he wanted more and it has been that way all season.
Personally, I’m not a big fan of Morata’s sale as it’s obvious that we would have been a lot stronger with him. He has been decisive in quite a few games and has always given his absolute best every time he was on the pitch. Having said that, 80 Million Euros is the part that sold me on this because we would not have gotten that amount from anyone in the future and he goes to a different league. In the end, I see this as a win-win situation.
Morata has said it himself and I think everyone already knew this as he isn’t expecting to ever return to the club. It’s the sad truth but it makes sense.
In the end, all that we can do it genuinely thank Alvaro Morata for what he has given the club through his youth days all the way up until yesterday. Whether we end up regretting it or not, he has done what he can for the club and it can be agreed that he had to move on if he wanted first-team football.
